Building on the Program for Youth initiative, on June 28, 2023, the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre, hosted a workshop titled “Youth and Internet Governance in the Intelligent Era.” The event was part of the VNNIC Internet Conference 2023 series and attracted strong participation from university students.

Internet Governance: Opportunities and Challenges for Vietnamese Students

In the Intelligent era, like many other countries, Vietnam is advancing rapidly in emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and cloud computing. As a result, demand for highly skilled IT professionals is surging, positioning the sector as a promising market for future engineers, developers, and startups.

Amid accelerating digital transformation, young people play a pivotal role in mastering technologies and driving the development of Vietnam’s Internet ecosystem. However, ensuring a high-quality workforce with a strong understanding of the Internet remains challenging, as technological advancements often outpace the updating of academic knowledge. This underscores the need for students to proactively acquire and continuously update their Internet-related knowledge, enabling them to become globally competitive digital citizens.

VNNIC Supports Students in Building Internet Resource and Governance Expertise

Recognizing the importance of students as the future of the Internet, VNNIC has mobilized both international and domestic experts to deliver training programs on Internet resources and governance for students at technology universities nationwide. Launched in 2022, the initiative was expanded in both scale and quality in 2023.

Kicking off the 2023 student-focused activities under the Program for Youth, a workshop on core Internet technologies and Internet safety was held on May 30, led by instructors from APNIC and “.vn” domain registrars, attracting hundreds of students nationwide. The program notably included hands-on guidance on building a personal online presence using Vietnam’s national domain “.vn,” helping students apply Internet resources in their studies and careers.

Following this success, the June 28, 2023 workshop on “Youth and Internet Governance in the Intelligent Era” was held in Ho Chi Minh City and delivered directly by APNIC experts.

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Truong Giang, Deputy Director General of VNNIC, emphasized: “The student community represents the NextGen—the future of Vietnam’s Internet. Through this program, students are equipped with knowledge of emerging technologies, Internet safety, and personal data protection. They are also guided to engage in the Internet governance ecosystem and introduced to future training opportunities offered by VNNIC and APNIC.”

Looking ahead, on June 30, within the framework of the VNNIC Internet Conference 2023, VNNIC will host a dedicated student workshop titled “Building a Digital Identity with the national domain ‘id.vn’.” The session aims to enhance digital competencies and prepare students for the digital transformation era, supporting the effective use of Internet resources in education, careers, and entrepreneurship.
